Is Personal Authenticity Leading You to Positive Impact?

Understanding what it means to be an authentic leader helps you determine the essence of your purpose. This foundation provides the platform for alignment with the purpose of others to create positive impact. In order to be true to yourself, you need to know “your story” -- the key events and influences which really shape who you are today.

Transparency and vulnerability also allows an individual to share their personal journey which involves challenges, successes, trials and experiences. My story involves both positive and negative transitions. Both sides of the coin are equally important; you learn just as much, if not more from the difficult times, in your life as you do from the positive times.

Bill George, Harvard Business School Professor and former Medtronic CEO, captures much of what I have discovered. “Purpose defines the unique gifts people bring to leadership challenges, through which they can align others with their purposes in order to create positive impact. This is far more important than focusing entirely on achieving success in metrics like money, fame and power, yet ultimately produces sustained success in those metrics as well.”

As an authentic leader with a clearly defined purpose, you will be well-positioned to create positive impact and create better lives for everyone you serve. How’s your life story influencing your purpose and impact?

The Impact Revolution Continues to Gain Momentum

The “Impact Revolution” continues to gain momentum as organizations, investors and entrepreneurs pursue economic and social impact. The attached Forbes article mentions that, “the Great Recession of 2008 brought a myriad of social and economic injustices to the forefront.” I contend that recent economic, political and environmental factors have both contributed to the injustices and fueled the engine that keeps the social impact revolution running.
